April 15, 2004 Wade's left rear leg was amputated at the hip this morning. He did very well during surgery and is resting quietly. He tested positive for heartworms and as soon as he is sufficiently recovered from surgery, he will be treated for heartworm disease, and administered a monthly oral heartworm preventative. Thank you for playing a part in Wade's Recovery! He also has hook worms, round worms, and tape worms. His weight is only ~43 pounds! Wade also has to be neutered as soon as his health improves sufficiently. Please check back from time to time for updates on Wade's progress. It's because of caring people like you that this dog will get excellent care and will have lots of good years left to enjoy a good family and to forget about this hardship.

LOOK who's BACK from the hospital!
It's WADE, but a whole NEW Wade! He's got bright eyes, ears perked,
smile on his face, and hope in his Heart!

Wade is doing wonderfully well!! He can now STAND, walk, and even tried
a "play crouch" in an effort to engage us in a game! We are AMAZED at
the difference in this sweet dog in such a short time from surgery.

One thing remains the same, however, and that's his Sweetness...

He's got a long way to go yet, but he's off to a great start! And
those of you who have sent money and prayers are responsible for that!
Just look at what you have made possible --
from This on April 13th

From money you have sent or pledged,
Wade's medical bills have been met,
including enough for his upcoming heartworm treatment and
neutering! YOU have done it, and you've done it in such a short time!!
When we told Wade yesterday how many of you have responded, and how many
care about him and his well-being, here's what he did:
![]()
Said a Prayer of Blessing for all those who cared enough to help a
throwaway dog they've never seen before, in a little-known town in Texas!
And, we at BHS say, "Amen."
We will continue to post updates on Wade's recovery... There will be
more to this story, that's for sure. Wade has something to teach us,
and what we've learned already is just the start.
Personally, one thing I've learned is that people aren't ALL as
complaisant as I had begun to believe. Your outpouring has shown
that to me... I thank Wade for making it possible for me to glimpse the
"other" side of humanity. The side opposite -- totally opposite -- from
the one that dumped this perfectly Angelic creature in a ditch to die.
I think through this journey with Wade, we will all learn something
specific to our lives.
We each just have to pay attention and not miss the lesson.
God Bless You!
God Bless America!
