ABBY
Abby
is a beautiful and very sweet Hound
mix. Not sure of her mix - maybe
Ridgeback or Vizsla or maybe even
Lab? But, whatever her heritage, she's
a wonderful dog. She gets along great
with other dogs and she is quiet and
totally nondestructive. She would
rather chase a tennis ball than to eat!
She's not great at bringing it all the
way back to you, but she LOVES chasing
them for as long as you can throw them!
Abby is housetrained, spayed, and
current on all vaccinations. She's very
loving and seems particularly fond of
men; although she slathers her foster
Mom with kisses, too. When Abby lies
down, she always crosses her front legs,
which is so cute and lady-like; and when
she gets a treat, she pulls back her
lips in the cutest grimace as she gently
takes the treat from your hand with her
teeth. She always gets an extra treat,
just so we can see her make this funny
face. This is a fantastic dog who needs
a forever home with a nice family to
love! If you can provide that home for
her, please apply today! This
wonderful girl is waiting to love you.

ANDY

This darling little boy is thought to be
a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. Can't know for
sure, but we do know that he was
relinquished by a neglectful (at the
least!) home who decided that he was
just taking up too much space! They
needed that corner where he was kept
24/7 in a small cage, because a
boyfriend was moving into the
house. When BHS went to pick him up, we
found Andy was extremely underweight,
his coat was brittle and dry, toenails
grown all the way around and back into
his feet, and his spirit was totally
broken. This precious soul had given
up, he showed no emotion whatsoever, and
was just waiting to die.
It
has taken quite a while and lots of love
from his foster family, but Andy has now
learned how to play, to crave human
interaction, and to show happiness. He
has come to love life and has a new and
happy spirit. He has gained weight all
the way up to 11 pounds, his coat is
long and silky, he has received all
vaccinations, had his teeth cleaned (and
toenails cut!), been neutered and house
trained. We are looking for a family
for Andy who will love and cherish him
for the rest of his life and continue to
nurture that loving spirit he is showing
now! He deserves that, for sure; and it
would be even more perfect if there is a
small dog or two for Andy to play with.
This dog has lessons to teach us - I
think "forgiveness" is the one he is
sharing now.

ANNIE
Annie
is a calm, quiet Chihuahua, about 2 years old, who LOVES
to snuggle and be cuddled. She gets along fine with
other small dogs, but wouldn't mind being the 'only
child' in the home! Annie is a small dog, at about six
pounds, so she's not into roughhousing with children!
This perfect little girl is housetrained, fully
vaccinated, spayed, and being kept on regular heartworm
prevention. Her foster home has noticed that even
though she's Very affectionate, she will not give
kisses! So, for those of you who don't like licks in
the face...here's the girl for you! Don't let this
little darling slip through your fingers! Apply Now!

BETSY
Betsy's
Mom died suddenly earlier this year. She was
taken in by a family member whose own dog
attacked Betsy and mauled her severely. She is
recovered, now; but, she was so sad and lonely
to be in a place she didn't feel safe, and she
didn't understand why her Mom wasn't there,
anymore. She was relinquished to BHS, where she
has found safe haven until she can find a new,
permanent home. She is no longer fearful, and
gets along fine with the other dogs although she
doesn't interact with them often. Betsy needs a
quiet, loving home in which to fully recuperate
from the hard blows that life has dealt her in
just a matter of months. She is spayed and
current on her vaccinations and fully recovered
from the attack. She's a mature Beagle/Pug mix
who is quiet, gentle, housetrained and not
destructive at all. She only wants to love and
be loved. Please consider giving Betsy a safe
and loving home for the rest of her life.
Having Betsy around gives a calming, grounded
feeling of "everything is going to be all right.
We have each other, and that's what counts!"
=) Consider giving Betsy that feeling, too, and
apply to adopt her today!

BOOGIE
Boogie
is a Chihuahua mix little guy who is 3 to 4 years of age. He
doesn't meet a stranger, human or canine. He loves to play
with the other dogs in the foster home and he plays hard.
He's OK with cats if they don't arch, hiss and run...he
will give chase if they do that; but, a cat who is
accustomed to dogs and doesn't run is just sniffed and left
alone. Boogie likes to burrow under the cover with his
foster parents at night and he sleeps the whole night
through. He likes to be held and will eat as many baby
carrots (and anything else!) as you hand out. Boogie is a
crooner! He does bark occasionally, but that's not
what we are talking about...he really tries to vocalize his
opinion on many things. It's a guttural sound, not a whine
or a bark, but he's really trying to find his voice!!
=) He will sing to you, too! This little guy throws back
his head and joins in song with anyone who feels like
singing! He will give the strongest singer some
competition! Boogie is a cute guy who is full of
personality and affection, and who needs a loving home to
call his own. He's housetrained, fully vaccinated, neutered
and is receiving regular monthly heartworm prevention to
keep him heartworm free. Boogie is a good boy - not your
everyday sort of Chi, but his own little man! If you think
you'd enjoy him as much as we do, don't let this opportunity
to share life with him pass you by! Apply for him today!

BUDDY
Buddy is such loving little dog, it's hard to
believe someone didn't keep him safe and off the
streets. But, he was observed for several weeks
eating from the garbage to survive and taking
shelter wherever he could find it. Once BHS got
him, though, his troubles were Over for Good!
The foster parents started calling him Buddy
while we were trying to come up with a name, and
it stuck. =) He IS a good buddy, and has done
fine in the foster home with the other small
dogs. He isn't totally housetrained, yet; but,
he's doing better all the time since he was
neutered. A friendly little guy, now that he
realizes that not all people are going to be
mean to him, and absolutely loves to sit on your
lap or just next to you in the recliner! He
shows that amazing ability I've only seen in
dogs, to forgive all transgressions by humans
and love them with all his might. Buddy has
been fully vaccinated, microchipped, and
neutered. He's receiving regular heartworm
prevention to keep him heartworm free. He is
a perfect little package of love and joy waiting
to be discovered by a loving family who will
give him a safe home where he's treated with
respect, just like the rest of the family
members. This little guy is a real find for the
right family! Don't dally...everyone needs a
Buddy!

DAISY
Daisy
is a little Chihuahua mix who was
rescued from a country road near Crosby,
TX. She was lost, scared, hungry and
in heat! First things first, the
finder tried to find the owner, and
after no success, Daisy was relinquished
to us, where she was comforted, fed, and
fitted with the appropriate 'diaper.'
Now, Daisy has come a long way since
that! She has gained weight (all the
way to approx 9 pounds), gained
confidence, been spayed, and fully
vaccinated. So, she's no longer skinny,
in heat or in danger of disease! She is
heartworm negative, and
receiving regular monthly heartworm
prevention to keep her that way! This
precious little girl is friendly and
affectionate. She plays with the other
dogs in the home, but she would really
rather give you some kisses and lie in
your lap while you read or watch TV. If
you need a Daisy in your life, please
apply today. This little girl needs her
very own home and a family who will love
her and keep her safe till her last
breath!

ADOPTED |
DARCY & BODI
Darcy
and Bodi are siblings. After her
rescuer trapped the Mom, they were
discovered in a den that she had
built to keep them safe from
predators. She (now named "Annie")
had been living in the woods and
doing her best to feed herself and
her babies. The rescuer had been
feeding her, but did not realize
that she had recently had puppies
until after the Mom was trapped. So,
now, Darcy and Bodi will soon be 3
months old and have had the very
best of care from their rescuer.
They have both been wormed, given
their puppy vaccinations, altered,
socialized with other dogs, and
housetrained. The
rescuer even had a DNA test run on
them and discovered that their
heritage is large dogs of all kinds!
=) Bodi, a male, is the larger of
the two and will probably top out at
55 - 60 pounds. Darcy, the dainty
girl, will most likely be around
45-50 pounds. These puppies who had
NO chance at a decent life at all
are, instead, ready for adoption
into good homes. They can be
separated, but finding a single home
would be great, too. Keep in mind
that while they have had all the
advantages that humans can afford
them, they are still puppies; and,
not knowing about all our human
rules, will chew, dig, and play
rough! They will also steal your
heart, cuddle with you on the couch,
protect you with all their might and
bring more love and joy into your
life than you can possibly imagine.

DIXIE

BEN & DIXON
 |
DIXIE'S THREE PUPS
ALL THREE PUPS ADOPTED!

Some of you may
remember reading in The Baytown
Sun or here on the BHS Website
about Dixie, the Basset who was
rescued from the streets - sick
and with a broken leg. Then she
surprised everyone, especially
her rescuer, by giving birth to
three puppies! Then the
struggle to find a foster home
that could and Would take care
of this family of homeless dogs.
Well, we are happy
to report that Dixie and her
puppies are all in their forever
homes now. This is the last
portrait of the little family,
taken by their Foster Mom,
before they went separate ways
to live their lives in different
cities and homes. Thanks goes
to everyone involved in helping
to save this family - From the
original rescuers and care
givers to The Baytown Sun for
bringing attention to the plight
of these animals, the people who
supported us in this effort both
financially and verbally, and
MOST of all to the Remarkable
Family who took in this brood
(and all the work that came with
them) and loved them with all
their might; then watched the
puppies leave to start their new
lives. Dixie will be staying
with them as they decided to
adopt Dixie themselves early on
in the process.
It's been a long
journey for everyone, but all's
well that ends well; and this
story has a very happy ending!
